1. even more意为“甚至更”，其中even是程度副词，more多与than连用构成比较级，如：Astronomers say the planetoid is even more mysterious than they first thought.（天文学家们说，这颗小行星比他们最初想象的甚至更神秘。） 2. no less意为“不少于，不亚于，同样……”，多与than构成比较级，如：Technology is no less important than market.（技术和市场同样重要。） 3. still less意为“更不用说”，用于否定句之后，对另一件事做更强有力的否定，如：He didn’t even have enough money to buy a used car, still less a new one.（他连买旧车的钱都不够，更不用说买新车了。） 4. still more意为“更不用说”，用于肯定句之后，对另一件事做更强有力的肯定，如：He is kind to me, still more to my elder brother.（他对我很和善，更不用说对我哥哥了。）
5.in view意为“可以看到，在望；有……目的或打算”，如：There was not a house in view.（看不到一座房子。） 6. in question意为“讨论（或议论）中的；有疑问，不确定”，如：the man in question（提到的那个人）；The future is not in question.（未来发展不容置疑）。 7. in case意为“万一，以防”，引导条件状语从句，如：I shall stay in the hotel all day in case Mary comes.（我要一直呆在旅馆，以防玛丽过来。） 8. in effect意为“实际上，事实上；在实施中，有效”，如：His wife has, in effect, run the government.（实际上是他的妻子在执政。）These laws are in effect in twenty states.（这些法律在二十个州有效。）
